At the very base, I think the two of you have some fundamentally different approaches and perspectives. I'm not going to insult Joanna - would never dream of it. But her perspective is a touch light for me. I think she has some great insights about the business, and a relaxed style. And that's all fine and well. My approach, however, is more aligned with yours. Also, Cheryl Strayed's book isn't "...just a long walk." If "Wild" isn't a pilgrimage, I'm not sure anything is.
On one hand, Joanna says there are many different approaches. On the other hand, she seems to believe her "lack" of a definitive way of doing things is "the" definitive way. And yet, it seemed that she disputed anything you said as "...no-no-no" "actually, it's...". That didn't sit well with me, personally.
It was a good show. It's interesting to hear two people who look to travel in the same direction take such different routes.
You know. I wish I'd been in a better emotional place when I interviewed her. Maybe I could have turned the tide and made this discussion more productive. I do agree though, WILD is a pilgrimage. Thanks, as always, for being great.
Wow. A lot to process.
