This is a very, very exciting episode! AJ Ponder is a thrilling storyteller, with a fascinating mind for weaving tales of adventure, intrigue, and pure grit. This one is a must-listen to.

Jody is bringing in some top-shelf talent to this podcast. As a writer, each episode challenges me to up my game, come out of my shell (like Ponder, I tend to think with my hands), and take my own writing to the next level. It also showcases how vastly different our talents and interests lie. There are as many different styles as there are stories, it seems. One of the greatest things about any art style. Especially in a world currently obsessed with the concept of diversity. Wonderful episode, truly.

Thank you for the wonderful, kind comment, Heather! I ate a block of lead to keep my head from getting too big and floating away!

What really captivated me about AJ was her ability to just say, "Okay, let's get gritty. That's where our story is going." She impressed me so much.

That's one of the things I found interesting, as well. It's sort of my mindset, and why things tend to get a little complex in my novels - though mine are mainly character driven, exploring the complexities of the human condition: specifically, our motives & choices, and the consequences we face.

I thought it would have been interesting to take the squirrel/unicorn connection further- where the CIA was disappointed because once they got their unicorns, the power they anticipated harvesting from them wouldn't work. Why? Because they didn't realize the squirrels were integral to that power (harkening back to the mind-melding properties of the squirrels). Also, I thought it would be interesting in whatever epic climax to have Emily die (right before the vet & she reconcile), and that causes some shift in the squirrels (who were tied to Emily in some way), thus, triggering the ultimate possibility to rescue the unicorns.

I go down a lot of rabbit holes. LOL

That is brilliant! I love the idea. It makes the maximum use of ever character and magic in the story, and while I don't know if you necessarily were thinking in these terms, it puts an amazing thematic light on how we treat the marginalized people and species in our communities. Homeless people and squirrels are often considered nuisances.

Your idea gives them dignity and weight. Nicely done!
