I'm glad you had some success with your Books n Brews too! An event for a writer in a bar/restaurant is actually not a bad plan....I'm in Iowa City, which is a big university town, and sympathetic to writers, and we have more than our share of bars and a few iconic restaurants...food for thought!
I was interested in this episode because I am going to do a press release for my Project Threshold locally. I have a friend who has worked in newspapers for the last 5 years who is helping me. From listening and checking out Mickey's website, it seems like it would be really hard to find and hit my market with a national release. I enjoyed the episode though and did pick up some tips on how to tweak my own release.
It definitely seems eReleases is best for blanket awareness at the national level. I'm scheming to see if there are any ways to create an event that would merit newsworthiness at a national level for a fiction author. To be determined…
I was looking through his drill downs for e-releases and especially considering I write a lot of horror, I don't think doing a press release by state would net a lot--or it would be very hit and miss. Still, it's worth keeping these things in mind and prodding and looking into all these avenues.
Listening now...first comment: on Lyle's eating. It did stand out at first and I thought--man is he ever not eating? BUT, after a while, I started to love it because you took it over the top--playing on that old trope of PI's eating and soon I was laughing, waiting to see what he was stuffing into his face next...
And that's the way I took it--I wasn't getting annoyed because Lyle was eating but I got what you were doing with it and I thought it was a great gimmick and funny side tangent. In my head I started wondering just how big Lyle really was, or if he was one of those big guys who just had a non-stop metabolism. Made me laugh and I don't think he ever ate the same thing twice...

I'll be doing it again, too. It's a great way to meet readers.
I think it sounds like a way to really connect with people in a unique way. I'll have to see if I can try something similar.

Yeah! That's how I wanted readers to feel. Glad it hit that way for you!
