They are so spot on about the Dead. As you know, my husband is a Dead Head - and I'm always saying "man - they sound like their instruments aren't in tune." But they are - and maybe just not to each other's. Downright discordant at times. Love that I'm not the only one who hears that.

How awesome to have musicians on your show! Entertainment is entertainment. And although we artists may "perform" in different mediums, the journey is very similar. As a music lover, I'm sure you know how I feel about this episode!!

I love that they know who they are. I always wanted to be a singer. That was it for me. I sang before talked. Long story, but it was really hard to give up that dream. But when circumstances put me on the writing path, I was able to let go of that (painfully) and switch focus. Given the times we're in, I made a wise choice to give up. And I'm well-suited for being a writer. But I love their very clear vision that "...pursuing anything outside music wouldn't make me happy." Having that clarity is so important. And that's now how I feel about writing.

As an aside, I briefly spoke with my childhood pastor on Facebook back a year or so before he died. His daughter and I were best friends in elementary school. Upon hearing about my writing, he contacted me and said, "I always knew you'd grow up to be a writer." He'd known me since I was 5. And I DIDN'T know I'd be a writer. Looking back, there were signs. I was gratified at his comment.

I love this perspective on marketing from the Wildwoods. It is important, I think, for all writers to hear how things are done in the "parallel universe" of music, given that (creatively) we're sort of cousins. Even their struggle (eh, a bit) regarding genre. It's so much more difficult when one doesn't write "genre fiction." And for a group like the Wildwoods, sounds like they have a similar consideration in music.

I agree with you, Jody, that we get pigeon-holed and instead should just write what we write. You are definitely NOT a "mystery writer." With Bogey out and (hopefully) Buckshot coming soon, I hope folks see you rightly as a multi-genre writer.

As for Eddie Vedder, I love his solo work on the movie "Into the Wild." He has a wonderful voice. Dark and intense. Right up my alley.

Good show! I really liked it! And I had Randy listen to some of their stuff. He really likes them - wants to know if they have albums out. He says they remind him a bit of the Paperboys. Their harmonies really remind me of Peter, Paul & Mary. Maybe if PP&M, CSN&Y, and S&G had a baby band (with a fiddle).

See! Somebody who knows music better than me. Tell Randy that The Wildwoods list Peter, Paul, and Mary as influences on their website.

There was a point in the conversation with them that I had a bit of jealousy, because I did the math on their timelines and realized they're still in their twenties. To have had such rapid growth, and to be able to earn a living with their passion, it really tugs on my "my-turn-yet?" strings. But what lingers after I get over my envy is the sense that (A) all three of them have a clear maturity, (B) an amazing talent, (C) an exceptional drive.

I hope to have other types of artists on in the future as well. We all have a similar journey.

Thanks, as always, for listening, Heather. You're a treasure.

This was such a great listen. When you told me it was coming last week, I was so happy and looking forward to it. I did get a chance to catch out their music. I did enjoy it. I placed them in a category of a group like Flatland Calvery. Absolutely did a great job with the interview, not being a “music/radio” guy. I will say in the future, if you do one like this, it would be a fun time to sit in on it. Someone once told me, I know the questions beneath the questions
