For good or ill, I think this is how marketing goes. You try things and many fail but every now and then you get a win and you just keep building on that. It's persistence over time and for good or ill, slow and steady wins the race! Hang in there and I'll share whatever things I learn too!

So much more failure than success. So so so much more.

Agreed. They've been riding on their monopoly and now it's falling apart. It is a shame because they should be championing authors instead of trying to use them. And yes, they don't understand the new world of publishing marketing.

Nice that you have a partner for your Books for Brews event.

Make sure you reach out to your local media as well as local businesses. Local TV stations especially are always looking for human interest stories.

I've got my press releases ready to go so I can send them out middle week. I'm hoping to be on TV, Radio, Local Podcasts and the Omaha World Herald. I figure I won't be totally embarrassed if I can get some of those booked because they have a large audience. We'll see!

Great! Like you said, even if they don't bite this time around, keep on trying. Take your own publicity shots, too. I'm sure I speak for everyone that we'd love to see how it turns out. Maybe #BooksForBrews #writers selfie with each of your new readers...

That's what I'm finding too. Except. I think it slowly builds and stacks. It's like you're at the bottom of the hill pushing the ball up, and to start it's a pain in the ass. But with each step you get a little closer.

I did some initial marketing for a humorous book I put out and very little I tried got anywhere. It was frustrating. I did get it on a shelf at a coffee shop here and it's what got me started on social media so it led me this far. And I think each new thing you try builds upon the past and slowllllllly you start building your brand and your name. But it ain't easy and I'm right there with you. I'm not looking forward to the mountain of work waiting for me with my Project Threshold, but the carrot is each new victory, no matter how small, will keep me moving forward. I do have days I wish I could go back in time and publish in the 60's and 70's when the big publishers actually seemed to give a shit about their authors... :):):) (on the other hand, the smaller presses I've dealt with do have that excitement to them...they just don't have the $$$ to back books and it falls to us).

I can't believe how much traditional publishers refuse to change. They could still do amazing things, but they are terrible at marketing. They still treat it the same way they did in the 60's and 70's so they see terrible results.

Another great episode and a lot of food for thought. Glad you've gotten some folks who are able to assist as you continue to work out the details for Books for Brews.

I just got an agreement from Block 16, and that was a huge win for the event. I'm going to get a ton of eyes on these books, no matter what. But can I turn those into sales? We'll see.

If anyone can do it, you can.
